19 Jul Make Moving Less Stressful
They say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do in your life. The physical labour and emotional tension leads to the magic being lost in what should be a really exciting moment. With the average Brit moving four times during their life, the main driver from households to up sticks is needing more space, followed by a change of scenery and lifestyle. In a recent study by L&G, almost half of the respondents (47%) experienced increased stress levels because of moving. While getting the keys to a new place should be exciting, 41% of adults experienced anxiety, sleep deprivation (31%) and arguments with their partner (25%).
As your Estate and Lettings agent, it’s our job to create and nurture a relationship in which you can relax, knowing we have everything covered and will be on hand to take care of anything you need with buying or selling your home.
That’s why, when you choose an estate agent, it’s important to not only go with whoever you have a genuine connection and chemistry with who can make the process enjoyable, but someone you know will get you value for money, and provide a service that is truly outstanding. This is something we really focus on at Chris Hamriding Estate Agents. And so, we were extremely honoured to win a number of awards over the last few years, recognising this dedication to great service.
Our accolades give our clients peace of mind that they are working with a trusted, award-winning agent in their local area. Some of our latest awards have come from The British Property Awards, ESTAS ‘Best in Postcode’ and ‘Gold Winner’ in the Best Estate Agency Guide. These awards were created to highlight agency excellence within a town, to enable vendors and landlords to make an informed and transparent decision in the choosing of an agent, and we hope that our recent awards help you to do just that!
However, our help, guidance and assistance can only do so much in your big step to a new home, so here are a few more helpful tips on moving house with less stress…
- Give yourself enough time: One of the biggest sources of moving stress is time. More specifically, not having enough of it. A stress free move might not be possible, but you can make it a whole lot easier by making sure to allot enough time to getting everything done.
- Start small – If moving stress is simply too much and you don’t know where to start, just get something done, be it packing up a single kitchen drawer or getting all your books into a box. Making progress, big or small, can really make a difference to your stress levels.
- Stay organized – From sorting and labelling boxes in a way that makes them easier to unpack to keeping all of the documents you might need in one handy place. Organisation is key!
- Ask for help – It’s okay to ask for support when you need it. If you’re feeling stressed during your move, ask a friend or family member for help, or even just some company while you pack or unpack.
- Catch some ZZZzzzz – When there’s a lot to get done, it’s easy to put sleep on the back burner. But the less rest you get, the more likely you are to feel overcome by stress. Make sleep a priority during your move, and try to get a full night’s rest as often as possible.
